Why we are a nation of book lovers<\/h3>

We, in the UK, are the nation of Tolkien, J K Rowling (before she became a hate-filled bitch), Lewis Caroll, C S Lewis\u2026 need I go on? We\u2019re whimsical, fanciful, dreamers at our very cores.<\/p>

In fact, you could go as far as to say that the Great British Authors drew from the very land itself. Lord of the Rings was borne of the rich landscape in Lancashire. Today, there is even a signposted \u201cTolkien Trail\u201d you can follow. (For inspiration on fantasy based travels check out our blog on Why We Chose To Make Fantasy T-Shirts)<\/u><\/a><\/p>

Then, of course, you have the weather. As a nation so often kept inside due to periodic downpours and general gloom, we have hundreds of years of adaption woven into our DNA that makes us predisposed to curling up with a cup of tea and a good book. We know <\/em>that the gorgeous landscape exists just outside our door, but the path is muddy and our anoraks make us sweat, so being bookish allows us to enjoy it from the comfort of our own homes (did someone say Hobbitcore<\/u><\/a>?).<\/p>

Ataraxia means \u201cinner peace\u201d - and that\u2019s exactly why so many of us flock to the great outdoors. You\u2019ve probably seen the memes or comments about how in Japan they prescribe forest bathing to improve health and emotional wellbeing. <\/p>

Those are big themes in the fifth ACOTAR book: A Court of Silver Flames, as the protagonist struggles with her inner demons and trauma. She ultimately names her sword Inner Peace (Ataraxia) for the calm she has come to experience through the control and focus of physical training. <\/p>

It must have called to something in our book lovers\u2019 hearts because we immediately loved the contradiction of the deadly weapon called Peace and saw the parallels with gruelling hikes, untamed wilderness and raw, harsh landscapes that bring us peace too.<\/p>

Are we all not, ultimately, Alices in this wonderland? <\/s><\/p>

Alice\u2019s adventures are entirely propelled by her curiosity. These are the things that spark our interest in both stories and adventures. Alice in Wonderland is so ingrained in us as British Book Lovers that so many great quotes come from those pages without us even realising. <\/p>

Hiking without a set destination shifts the emphasis onto the journey, rather than the destination, inspires whimsy, curiosity and presence.
